Impressionism and fashion on display at the Orsay

Impressionism and fashion is the name of the major exhibition being staged until 20th January at the Musée d’Orsay. This cultural event enables visitors to discover how, through their endeavour to depict as faithfully as possible the way of life of their era, the impressionists provided a testament to 19th century trends and fashion.

Impressionism and fashion: a unique theme

It is the first time that an exhibition has been devoted to these two themes. There is nevertheless a lot to say about the way in which Manet, Renoir and Degas painted the clothes of their contemporaries, both men and women!

Organised in collaboration with the Chicago Art Institute and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Impressionism and Fashion invites visitors to admire some sixty famous paintings, including “Young Lady” by Manet and “Madame Charpentier and her Children” by Renoir. It also displays around fifty dresses and ladies’ accessories, from the Galliera Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts, especially restored for the occasion!

Whether you are a lover of fashion or art, or simply curious, don’t miss this original exhibition, staged by Robert Carsen.
